Do any of these sound familiar?

  • I’m sick of constantly butting heads with my tween/young teen.
  • I’m worried about the kind of adult my kid will grow into.
  • I don’t trust my parenting instincts.
  • The way I dealt with my child when they were younger no longer works and I don’t know what else to try.
  • I am constantly reacting to my child. We go from one drama to the next.
  • I want to have fun again.
  • I love my child so much and want to connect with him or her in a way that feels easy (easier).
  • My partner and I cannot agree on what to do with the kids.
  • My beloved child feels like a stranger to me.

Parenting in the Messy Middle:

Understanding Yourself in the

Tween and Young Teen Years

IMG_9950

After working with hundreds of parents of tweens and young teens, I have seen a pattern emerge. The pendulum tends to swing dramatically from too controlling to throwing up our hands and giving up. In either case, we feel out of control and our tweens need us to stay steady. Not perfect. Steady.

So, I created a course to steady us. (And I mean US, I am in this, too).

This is a course to help you:

  • identify your specific struggles and reactions,
  • understand the role of connection in your relationship with your increasingly independent tween or teen, and
  • manage your family dynamics with family meetings and positive techniques.

You will be able to start applying the things you learn to your parenting life RIGHT AWAY!

Aren’t Parenting Classes for Really Terrible Parents?

BREAKING NEWS: NO! Parenting tweens and young teens can be, a-hem, just a little bit…FROUGHT sometimes.

Our culture, from the moment you had kids, decided you needed to know what to do, all of the time. First of all, that’s not even possible and second of all, our tweens/young teens do not need for us to know everything.

We don’t do ourselves any favors when we decide we need to have all the answers at all times, and your teens and tweens can spot a phony a mile away.

Parenting is HARD and teens and tweens can be complicated beings.

Getting support doesn’t mean you’re clueless; it means you know how important it is to ask for help when you need it.

It’s self-care, and truly, it’s just how life works.

We can ALL use a little backup now and then.

What do I get when I sign up?

  • An online class that never closes.
  • Two live group coaching sessions (which are recorded if you can’t make it).
  • VIP (Very Important Parent) Status upon completion of the course. This includes special pricing and a la carte coaching options.
  • We figure out what areas of parenting teens/tweens evoke the strongest responses from you.
  • We identify your feelings about these topics that come up when raising tween and teens and then determine your next best steps for resolving conflicts while maintaining connection.
  • We create a plan to decrease the struggles in your family, as well as deepen your connection to and understanding of your child.
  • You grow and cultivate a more peaceful and easy relationship with your tween or teen.

Take it from parents who have been where you are.

“Meghan has completely changed the way I parent. Focusing on connecting and building trust while maintaining boundaries is so much more effective and, frankly, fun than yelling all the time!

I’m also so grateful for the way she builds social justice and empathy into her practice and teaching. #gamechanger”

-Margery S., Mother of 3

“Meghan is awesome because she takes all this brain-based parenting stuff that most of us did not grow up with and that is not particularly intuitive and makes it APPROACHABLE and ACHIEVABLE in a way that other teachers or books had not been for me.

“Meghan’s class has changed my parenting and my relationships (including with myself) for the better!”

-Sara T., Mother of 1

Who is this Meghan Leahy person anyway?

I’m glad you asked! I am a certified parent coach, a parenting columnist for The Washington Post, as well as a certified school counselor and former teacher. I am a certified facilitator for the Power to Parent series from the Neufeld Institute.

Last and never least, I am a mother to three young children myself. I am no stranger to power struggles!

My mission is to help you bring lightness, laughter, and love into your home. To help joyfulness and tranquility find a place at the table. To teach you to forgive yourself when you are human and move forward. To feel in control and optimistic about the future, and to have fun with your family. The theory and practices you will learn have helped me at the different ages and stages of my children, as well as transitions in my own personal life.

I am a heart-centered parent coach in a data-driven world. Because, let’s face it, we have all the data we need at our fingertips, all of the time.

Now we need to use our hearts.

More from parents like you…

“[This class] makes motherhood feel so much less lonely. It takes a village and this is my village.”

-Jen G., Mother of 2

“This class has changed the ways I approach conflicts with my children. It’s also changed how I view their reactions to life. Both have resulted in more peace, a happier family, and healthier children (and parents).”

“If I could convince every parent to use Meghan Leahy, I would. Her smart, savvy and non-judgmental approach helped us tackle issues — big and small — we’d been struggling with for years.

We’re better parents today thanks to her.”

FAQs

Who is this class for?

Any parent, grandparent, nanny, or caregiver who has a neurotypical child between the ages of 9-14.

Can my spouse or partner join me?

Absolutely! I strongly recommend that any partner who would like to take the class and hop on the two Zoom group coaching calls should not hesitate. So, think of that… this is like a BOGO for parenting support!

Do I have to do every step perfectly when it is introduced?

NO! You may read some of the steps and activities in class and think, “Hmmm, I don’t need this right now.” That is totally fine. I only want you to take what you want and practice the techniques you want and need. There is always time and space to try the other practices. You can return to it whenever you feel called to it. Remember, the lessons never close.

Will this class fix my parenting problems?

No. I don’t believe that you nor your tween/young teen is broken, hence there is no need to fix anyone. I concentrate on how we understand ourselves and how that understanding either encourages or discourages our relationship with our tween. Every human is complicated; this course seeks to address larger theories and issues in parenting. If you believe that you or your tween is depressed, anxious, or suicidal, please reach out to your pediatrician or this hotline. National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-8255 (TALK). If there are other substance abuse or mental health issues, please contact SAMHSA at 1-800-662-HELP (4357)

Are there refunds available?

No, all purchases are final, as all material is available immediately.

My partner/spouse thinks this is unnecessary, can I take the class by myself?

Absolutely. At the end of the day, we are only responsible for our own behavior.

What if I need more support?

Once you sign up and complete the class, you will be a VIP (a Very Important Parent). You will be able to sign up for private coaching sessions at reduced rates. I want to help you wherever you are in your parenting journey.

Do you specifically address issues such as ADHD?

I mention some topics as considerations, but this class is not a deep-dive into executive functioning issues, or any other learning or emotional differences.

How do the Zooms work?

There will be TWO live Zooms (Currently scheduled for May 18th at 7pm ET and  July 13th at 12pm ET) . I will have a specific topic to discuss, as well as take the time to answer as many of your questions as I can get to! Every Zoom will be recorded for you to watch (or rewatch) at your convenience.

What is the pacing of the class?

The first module opens on April 17th, after that a new module opens up every Monday.
